Revolution of Radical Change is the 2022 theme for the Mosaic Literary Conference, hosted by Literary Freedom Project. Each year they invite educators, community and arts organizations, as well as the public to participate in a variety of workshops committed to creating spaces that help elevate cultural narratives.

Revolutions

For this year’s theme “Revolution of Radical Change,” I started by doing some research on posters and flyers for similar themed events. Having been deeply rooted in radical community spaces, I had an idea about the type of designs out there. Almost 20 years ago now, I designed a flyer for a radical student group event at NYU with a series of Black power fists. I wanted to do something that was more future-feeling and actually more literal. I came up with the ideas of a helix and a series of steps. To me, they signified movement, both up and down, and progress, that can sometimes seem so apparent and at other times negligible. I wanted to illustrate both the hope and the tension that comes with the idea of revolution.
